KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's total industry volume (TIV) for February rose 39 percent to 62,649 units from 45,062 units a year ago, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) on Monday.

According to the MAA, Malaysia's new car sales for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles rose to 55,555 and 7,094 units, from 40,119 and 4,943 units a year earlier, respectively.

Compared to 49,479 units in January, the February total car sales volume was 27 percent higher.

MAA said the sales volume was underpinned by the delivery of backlog orders.
