HONG KONG -- The Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Wednesday approved a bill that requires public officers including District Council (DC) members to take an oath of upholding the Basic Law and swearing allegiance to the HKSAR.

BANGKOK -- Thailand reported a new daily record of 34 COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday, taking the country's death toll to 486, with 1,983 new infections, according to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of the new cases, 1,974 were domestic infections while nine others were imported cases, CCSA spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangsan told a daily news conference. (Thailand-COVID-19)

DHAKA -- Bangladesh on Wednesday received a batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine donated by China.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming formally handed over the vaccines to Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Maleque at a ceremony at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia recorded its highest single-day death toll from COVID-19 on Wednesday after the virus claimed 39 more lives, bringing the total deaths to 1,761, according to the Health Ministry.
Malaysia has suffered a resurgence of COVID-19 cases which has forced the government to impose a nationwide movement control order till June to curb the spread. The previous record for single day fatalities was reported on Sunday with 26 deaths. (Malaysia-COVID-19)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan authorities on Wednesday declared that strict islandwide travel restrictions will be imposed in efforts to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from spreading further in the Asian country.
