KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 1,300 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 353,329, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 24 of the new cases are imported, with 1,276 being local transmissions.

Five more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 1,300.

Another 1,412 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 337,868 or 95.6 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 14,161 active cases, 189 are being held in intensive care and 88 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
