KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 649 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Thursday, bringing the national total to 30,090.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that seven of the new cases are imported and 642 are local transmissions.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the death toll at 246.

Another 685 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 19,757, or 65.7 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 10,087 active cases, 106 are being held in intensive care units and 23 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
