BEIRUT, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon announced on Tuesday three days of mourning and lowering flags at half-mast over the death of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"Lebanon loses a great brother who stood by the Lebanese in difficult circumstances during the past years," said Lebanese President Michel Aoun in an official statement.
"The great Emir was a loud voice in regional and international forums in defense of Arab rights in general and just causes, namely the Palestinian cause," he added.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Nabih Berri described Sheikh Sabah as "a voice that spoke nothing but the truth and a white hand that heals wounds and the rift in the body of the nation."
Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab hailed the late Kuwaiti emir as "an example of chivalry, moderation and wisdom."
