OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Nov. 27 (PIA) --Ozamiz City Mayor Sancho Fernando "Ando" Oaminal delivered his 1st state of the city address to report to Ozamiznons his accomplishments and programs for his first 150 days of office.
"150days ago, we began our work to fulfill our campaign promises to you all to start bringing in a new Ozamiz City that is thriving and progressive. Today, I am here to reaffirm that promise and to report to everyone how far we've come. We will work harder to bring the development that every Ozamiznon deserves," the mayor said.
His administration places peace and order as one of its top priorities.
In June, Oaminal promised an initial P35-M budget from the local government for the local law enforcers.
Last month, he turned-over three brand new well-equipped 4x4 patrol pick-up that are ready to roam even in areas with no roads. He also increased the allowance of the city policemen from P500 monthly to P5,950 per month.
Mayor Oaminal reported, "Comparing data from July to October last year to this year, the crimes committed significantly decreased from around 129 to 63, or down by 51%."
In the next few months, he said he will continue to invest in more modern technological devices like brand new, better quality CCTV cameras in the streets and highways, communication gadgets, armored shields for front liners and the like.
He also reported accomplishments in social services such as the birth to death assistance program.
"Now we have begun to make good on those promises with the Asenso Ozamiz Free Hospitalization Program," Oaminal said.
In the previous administration, the city government was only able to serve 509 clients in 2017 and 623 clients in 2018 through minimal partial financial aid averaging P5,000," Oaminal added.
From the date he launched the program on July 8 up to November 15, 2019, the Asenso Ozamiz has increased those numbers and served close to a thousand client beneficiaries.
The assistance each got ranged from P1,000 to P400, 000, depending on the billing. From the said period, the city spent a total of P16, 445, 839.77.
Moreover, the same amount saved by the beneficiaries helped boost the local economy.
With this program, the family's savings go to where they desired it to be. The amount helps fuel the local economy and increases the spending power of every Ozamiznon.
On the burial assistance, the city government spent a total of P2,123,000,00.
Mayor Oaminal also assigned two private ASENSO trucks to provide free transport to grieving families during the burial of their loved ones.
For the senior citizens, the city government released a total of P708, 000 as Maagang Pamasko to Lolos and Lolas who joined the Senior Citizen month celebration.
This will help augment their funds to buy medicines and other necessities. "In time we will find ways on how to tap our senior citizens who are still willing to contribute to the development of our city," Oaminal added.
For education, Oaminal prioritized the need for better-equipping public schools.
He said, "As promised during the campaign, this administration will work hand-in-hand and in partnership with our Representative, Deputy Speaker Henry Oaminal as Congressman Oaminal made possible the rise of numerous new school buildings in the City."
During the ceremonial turnover of the different new school buildings last July, Oaminal promised that, for this year 2019, the Asenso Ozamiz administration will purchase modern informational-technology equipment to cope with the times the facilities used by the teachers in educating their students.
Depending on each school's needs, the city allotted P100,000 worth each for the 44 elementary schools and P150, 000 worth each for the 19 integrated schools and high schools, with a total of P7, 250,000,00 worth of IT Equipment.
For the scholarship program, by the first quarter of 2020, the city will be starting the application process through an entrance examination to be conducted by the local government.
"The city of Ozamiz is grateful because billions of projects are finally coming our way. Among these was the airport modernization program which no less than President Rodrigo Duterte has led the groundbreaking."
Mayor Oaminal also announced the Asenso Ozamiz Mega Sports Complex designed by the world-renowned Architect Arc Jun Palapox. This will be a 34-hectare development with 20-25k capacity, followed by the courts and equipment that will enable to host soon. Congressman Henry Oaminal will give initial P200M for 2020 for the construction of the said arena.
In barangay Malaubang, where the DPWH through Congressman Oaminal, has approved a P15M budget for the construction of free homes for the urban poor, the city government has likewise reprogrammed an appropriation under the 2019 budget the same amount of P15M to build more houses that would be given to the urban poor community.
On barangay affairs, Oaminal committed P200,000.00 per year for each barangay. Last August, the city distributed the checks to the different barangay captains totaling approximately P10M for donations and assistance to the barangays.
Mayor Oaminal said, "Donations during our time from July 1 to November 15 compared to the same period in 2018 was up by more than P23M."
Furthermore, income from the city's businesses was up as well. From July to November 2018, the City Economic Enterprise posted an income of P15, 241,985. Under the Oaminal administration, he earned around P6 million more at Php 22M.
