Wanted by OWWA: Model OFW Family of the Year

KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 19 (PIA6) -- The annual search is on again for the Model Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) of the Year Awards (MOFYA) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The search is now on its 14th year with the aim of recognizing the invaluable contributions of OFWs and the support of their families in pursuit of a better life, and to honor the sacrifices of migrant workers abroad by highlighting their stories of success, according to OWWA.

The annual search, places great emphasis on OFWs in the achievement of professional and educational advancement, financial success and stability, positive community involvement and most importantly, maintaining family unity and solidarity amidst life's challenges, an OWWA press release said.

In the search, two (2) outstanding OFW families - one land-based and one sea-based - will be selected as regional winners.

Only two winners per category will be determined as grand winners for the national level.

In an additional information from OWWA provided by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) here led by Manager Vivian Ruiz Solano, the criteria of the search are the following: Wholesome OFW Family (50%); Civic/Community Involvement of OFW and Family (20%); Success in OFW and/or Family member/s education or profession (20%); and Success in Managing Family Finances (10%).

The following requirements should be complied with by nominees to qualify: the OFW, single or married and with proof of OWWA membership, should head the family and may be presently employed overseas or former OFW; the OFW should have at least 4 years of work experience abroad; that he/she has returned to the country for good for no longer than 10 years at the time of nomination; the OFW family is known as a solid/stable family in the locality; should be financially stable, and is actively involved in community projects.

The OWWA said only registered Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), People's Organizations (POs), religious organization or association, community-based socio-civic organizations/associations and OFW Family Circle (OFCs) can nominate an OFW family.

No individual nomination shall be accepted, OWWA emphasized. (VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
